Battery disposal
We collect batteries and are responsible for their recycling.
Note on the disposal of used batteries
The following notice is intended for those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and no longer resell them in the form in which they were delivered (end users):
- Free return of used batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to return used batteries to ensure proper disposal. You can dispose of them at a municipal collection point or at a local retailer. As a battery distributor, we are also obligated to take back used batteries. However, our obligation to take back is limited to used batteries of the type that we carry or have carried as new batteries in our product range. You can therefore either return used batteries of the aforementioned type to us with sufficient postage or hand them in free of charge at our shipping warehouse at the address stated in the imprint.
- Meaning of the battery symbols
Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out garbage can (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005 percent mercury by mass, more than 0.002 percent cadmium by mass, or more than 0.004 percent lead by mass, the chemical name of the pollutant used is located below the garbage can symbol – where "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury.
- Vehicle batteries
The following special features apply to the sale of vehicle batteries (these are batteries intended for the starter motor, lighting, or ignition of vehicles): According to Section 10 of the German Battery Act (BattG), the seller is obligated to collect a deposit of €7.50 including VAT from end users for each vehicle battery if the end user does not return the old vehicle battery to the seller at the time of purchase of the new vehicle battery. The customer receives a deposit voucher when purchasing a vehicle battery. The customer can return the old vehicle battery to the seller to receive a refund of the deposit. Due to the German Hazardous Goods Ordinance, shipping the old vehicle battery to the seller is not permitted. Alternatively, the customer can return the old vehicle battery to a collection point established by the public waste disposal authority. If the old vehicle battery is not returned to the seller who collected the deposit, the person authorized to collect the old vehicle battery pursuant to Section 11 Paragraph 3 of the BattG who takes back the old vehicle battery is obligated, upon request, to confirm the return without refund of the deposit to the end user in writing or electronically. In this case, the customer will receive a refund of the deposit from the seller, provided that he presents the seller with a written or electronic proof of return in accordance with Section 10 Paragraph 1 Clause 4 of the Battery Act, which is not older than two weeks at the time of submission.
